In conjunction with the start of our new union, Unifor, National Council 4000 has rolled out our new website; unifor4000.com. The new site has a bright, modern, streamlined design using a more up-to-date platform than our previous sites. It has more interactive and social media features and will allow for better access and viewing on smartphones and tablets. Unifor Council 4000 President Barry Kennedy said that he plans to focus on improving the Council's communication and this is the first step, along with a new Facebook and Twitter pages.
"Life is different today, not to suggest in the 1980's and 1990's that union members came out to union meetings in drovers, but the turnouts today is much less in most cases than that of 20-30 years ago", explained Kennedy.
"Members are busy today, and sometimes the agendas that are laid out at some membership meetings does not address the issues that members find important or interesting. "So we need to improve our meetings, but more importantly, be more effective in bringing the important and interesting information to our membership, and we do that through today's communications and social networking", said Kennedy.
In addition to this website, Kennedy has set up a new Unifor Council 4000 Facebook page, a new Twitter page (twitter.com/Unifor4000) as well as his own Twitter account - twitter.com/PrezUnifor4000. "I hope that Twitter will allow me to communicate quicker in short fashion as it is intended instead of updating a website", said Kennedy. Feeds to all three accounts will be featured on unifor4000.com.
Kennedy says that he will take a leadership role and use to his ability, as permitted under the Unifor Constitution and Council 4000 Bylaws, to appoint a Communications Committee that will assist in keeping communications current and informative, both on unifor4000.com, Facebook and Twitter.
